From the creators of SWARM - The HoneyMakers are a hybrid act aimed at merging turntables/live sequencing and visuals in an exciting and refreshing way. Dj Vic and Mookie combine forces, manipulating beats, bleeps, light and loops to create some honest, upfront party music, SWARM style. So if you love your underground techno you'll love this act. On June 2nd of this year we launched this new project in a 2 hour show jam packed full of intensity, funk and a great vibe, which people are still talking about it,
Our setup comprises of 3 decks, a laptop or two, 2 mixers, midi synced devices and effects plus a custom designed and programmed visual show.For us it is not so much that we are breaking any world records or pioneering a certain setup, because lets face it using decks with effects and drum machine etc has been done many times before . Our aim is to combine all the things we are working on creatively and incorporating turntables/live sequencing and effects seems like a great way to go. Visually SWARM has a look and is branded in a certain way, so including a visual element in our set will bring together our creative outlets even more.
In terms of Djing Vic generally plays the more upfront techno with lots of twisted samples and elements of the old school sound, Mel's sound combines a good helping of minimal, underground electro and always has a funked out flavour. Our styles really complement each other - it is all techno but when we play together certain combinations of tracks sound really fresh and seem to take the whole set on an unexpected tangent. The contrast in years behind the decks also gives the whole thing a fresh attitude.
The HoneyMakers is all about creating a fresh sound combining both our styles. We also love going through our huge vinyl collection and choosing a few key tracks from the past that will no doubt bring back the memories of some really great swarm moments, we will be reworking different sounds and playing around with some unreleased loops as well as tracks we have released on our SWARM label.
All in all The HoneyMakers is a real celebration of SWARM, which is unique not only in Sydney but also worldwide. Since the first Swarm in 1999 there have been quite a few defining moments as well as many very memorable good times. We are not here to define the sound of SWARM, our music policy is always quite open. As long as it gets the crowd going, whatever goes really. That is the beauty of Techno really, it is an all encompassing style which takes influence from all the many sub genrs of electronica. We want to push the boundaries, merge media and inject some freshness, keep things exciting and not stagnant. Look out for forth coming track releases by The HoneyMakers.
